Who We Are
The Slate Project (TSP) is a radical movement to re-imagine church. We are all about "Christianity without the crap" and getting back to the "basics."
We care less about agreeing on doctrine and dogma, and more about helping each other follow Jesus in our everyday lives.
A big part of our project is "self-critique" of our church institutions, theologies, and practices. We know there is a lot that needs to be "cleaned off the slate"-- like all the ways racism, sexism, homophobia, classism, xenophobia, colonialism, patriarchy, disrespect for other religions, and a bunch of other bad stuff-- have been a part of the structures of the church and the way we relate to one another.
This doesn't happen overnight. We are committed to the conversations and conversions it will take to lament and repent of these sins, as well as the hard slow work of reconciliation and restoration that God's justice requires.
TSP was founded as a mission of the Delaware Maryland Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), and we are super grateful for their support.
TSP continues to exist because of the "friendship economy" and the generosity of our co-conspirators. If you feel moved to donate to our movement, we would greatly appreciate it. It will help keep us going.
What We Do
We are building a movement of co-conspirators, all across the world; people who are working to change the church from the inside out.
If you are in Baltimore on a Monday night, check out #BreakingBread. This is our equivalent of a "weekly worship service." We break bread (obvi), share a meal, pray together, teach each other, and talk about where faith meets real life. All are welcome.
On Wednesday mornings at 7:30 AM (yeah, we know, it's hella early. There will be coffee) we meet together to study and reclaim the Bible as a story worth telling-we call it #WakeUpWordUp.
On Thursday evenings at 9 PM EST, things get real over on Twitter and we have church on-line in real time. Follow #SlateSpeak to join in the edgy, progressive Christian tweet chat. Every week there is a new topic and a new moderator. If you are interested in moderating, let us know @TheSlateProject.
We want to know what folks out there are doing and how we can support you help get the word out about your ministry.
